Arena ticket, audio guide and a Forum guide with Show Me Italy

Show Me Italy sells the most-booked arena tour on Viator: an arena ticket and an audio guide for the Colosseum, plus a live guide for the Forum and the Palatine. Pick it only if you're happy to see the Colosseum on your own, because the live guide does not come inside.

Arena Floor, Forum & Palatine with Audio Guide

About this experience

Read the inclusions closely. They list an "Official Live Guide for Roman Forum and Palatine Hill", a "Colosseum Entrance with Audio Guide" and the arena ticket, valued at EUR 24. One of the listing's own highlights is "Explore the Colosseum at your own pace, without a guide or group". In plain words: your guide stays outside the Colosseum. You walk the Forum and the Palatine with a person and the amphitheatre, arena floor included, with a recording.

The guides get warm reviews: archaeologists, storytellers, people who know where the photo spots are. What drags the rating down to 4.2 is the Colosseum half. In October 2026 several guests wrote that the arena part was cancelled at short notice with a partial refund (two mention 20%), that they learned a day before that the guide could not join them inside, or that the start time moved, from 3:30 pm to 2 pm in one case. A guest booked a German tour four weeks ahead and got an English one plus a German audio guide; Viator told her the operator only learns a week ahead how many entry slots it gets.

Our view: if you want the arena floor and a guide on it, book a tour where the guide comes in, such as Crown Tours or Journey Tours, both at about the same price. If you're fine on your own inside, the official Full Experience Arena ticket at EUR 24 gives you the same floor without the middleman, when you can get it. This tour makes sense for one kind of visitor: someone who wants a live guide for the Forum and Palatine and a ticket for the Colosseum on a date when the official ones are gone.

  • A live guide for the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

What guests say

★★★★★

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable on Roman history. He did a fantastic job answering questions and tying culture, art, and history together. Best tour guide we had on the entire 14 day trip.

Giulia, our guide, is an archaeologist whose passion and enthusiasm for the Roman Forum and surrounding areas is contagious. The only downside is that we only had a couple hours with her before we had to go to the Colosseum for our reserved time slot.

The tour guide makes the difference, and our tour guide was great. He was knowledgeable and a very good communicator. The pace of the tour was very good, not too fast and not too slow [...]

Ilenia was very informative of how the Romans lived their daily lives as compared to us. It made us feel very involved in the tour.

Tips before you book

  • Check your email and the Viator app every day in the last week. Guests who missed a time change lost the tour.
  • If the operator moves your time to one you can't make, ask for a refund in writing. A guest who accepted a phone fix turned up at the old time and was turned away.
  • Wear a belt without a metal buckle. A guest warned that everything metal comes off at the security check.
  • Names on the booking can't be changed. Enter every traveller exactly as on their passport.
  • Look for the large red pillar in front of the church. The square gets crowded with other operators' groups.
